Why timing matters more here
In a dry climate, losing air conditioning overnight is unpleasant. Here it is different, and the reason is moisture.
Dew points on this coast hold above 70 degrees for months. When the system stops, nothing is removing water from the air, and indoor humidity climbs fast. Within a day a closed-up house is damp enough for mold to take hold on cool surfaces, in wardrobes and behind furniture on exterior walls. In a rental with guests arriving, the same failure is a refunded booking and a review that does not go away.
That is why we run emergency service around the clock rather than to a schedule.
What counts as an emergency
Call us straight away for any of these:
- No cooling at all when it is genuinely hot
- A burning or electrical smell from the indoor or outdoor unit
- Water coming through a ceiling under an attic air handler
- A breaker that trips every time the system starts
- Ice visible on the refrigerant lines or coil
- A grinding or screeching compressor
- No heat during a cold snap, particularly inland
Some of those are safety issues rather than comfort ones. An electrical smell or a repeatedly tripping breaker means switch the system off at the breaker and call, rather than trying again to see if it holds.
What to do while you wait
A few things genuinely help.
If the coil is frozen, switch the system to off and the fan to on. That thaws the coil and often halves the diagnostic time when we arrive. Do not keep running it in cooling; that is how a cheap repair becomes a compressor.
If water is coming through a ceiling, turn the system off at the thermostat and the breaker. The condensate is not going to stop while the system runs.
Otherwise, leave the thermostat where it is. Setting it to 65 does not make the house cool faster, and if the system is short of capacity it just runs continuously without reaching setpoint.
Pricing, plainly
Emergency response runs 24/7, and Comfort Club members pay no after-hours surcharge on nights, weekends or holidays. The rate at midday on a Tuesday is the rate at midnight on a Saturday.
For everyone else, emergency work is quoted in writing before it starts, same as any other visit. You will know the number before we begin.
Accelerated Air Conditioning is a licensed Florida HVAC contractor (CAC1824740) covering Santa Rosa Beach, the 30A communities, Miramar Beach, Destin, Freeport, Point Washington and Inlet Beach.
For property managers and rental owners
Most of what we do on 30A runs against someone’s calendar. Tell us the turnover window when you call and we will work to it, weekends included. If you manage multiple properties it is worth having your details on file so a call-out does not start with twenty questions.
A connected thermostat is the cheapest insurance available for a house you are not standing in: you find out about a failure from an alert rather than from a guest.
Frequently asked questions
Do you really answer at 2am?
Yes. Emergency response is around the clock, every day.
Is there an extra charge at night or on a holiday?
Not for Comfort Club members. For others, emergency work is quoted before it starts so there are no surprises.
Should I turn the system off if it is making a strange noise?
If it is grinding, screeching or smells electrical, yes, at the breaker, and then call. Those are the noises that get more expensive the longer they run.
How fast can you get here?
It depends on where you are and what is already in the queue. We will tell you honestly when we can arrive rather than giving you a number designed to end the call.
