Specify for the season you actually have

The Emerald Coast has a long cooling season and a short heating one. Roughly 3,200 cooling degree days against under 600 heating degree days tells you where the equipment spends its life.

That argues strongly for a heat pump in most homes here. One system covers both, it is efficient across the long cooling season, and it handles the heating demand this climate produces without a separate furnace sitting idle eleven months of the year. It is also why oversizing for heat is a mistake: a system chosen for a cold snap will be oversized for the eight months that matter, and it will short-cycle and leave the house humid.

Inland changes the balance somewhat. Freeport and the areas north of the bay see harder cold snaps, so the heating side deserves more weight there than it does on a beachfront condo.

Where auxiliary heat fits

Heat pumps lose capacity as outdoor temperatures drop. Auxiliary electric resistance heat covers the gap during genuine cold, and the design question is how much of it to fit and when it should engage.

Too little and the house cannot recover on a cold morning. Too much, or staged too eagerly, and you run expensive resistance heat when the heat pump could have handled it. Correct staging is worth getting right at installation, because it is the difference between a reasonable winter bill and a shocking one.

Ductwork, again

As with cooling, a new heating system inherits whatever ductwork is already there. Duct losses in an unconditioned attic or crawl space cost you just as much in January as in July, and a system sized against a leaky distribution system is sized against the wrong number.

We measure static pressure and inspect the duct runs before quoting. Sometimes the honest recommendation is to spend part of the budget on the ducts.

What we install

Accelerated Air Conditioning is a licensed Florida HVAC contractor (CAC1824740) and an authorized installer for Goodman, Hisense, Trane and Carrier. In-home estimates are free and quotes are written.

For additions, carriage houses and converted spaces, a ductless mini-split heat pump often makes more sense than extending a central system, and it heats as well as it cools.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a furnace in Florida?

Usually not. A heat pump covers both the long cooling season and the modest heating demand, and avoids a second system that runs a few weeks a year.

Will a heat pump keep up in a cold snap?

With correctly specified and staged auxiliary heat, yes. That staging is a design decision made at installation, not an afterthought.

Is it worth replacing heating and cooling together?

In a heat pump they are the same equipment, so yes by definition. Where a separate air handler and heat source exist, replacing together avoids mismatched components and warranty complications.

How long does installation take?

Typically a day for a straight replacement. Ductwork or electrical changes extend it, and we will tell you before starting.
